Grizzly Bear - Ursus arctos horribilis


Back to ballpoint pens with this sketch. This one again from a photo reference, with a grid used for reference..

The grizzly is a subspecies of brown bear and has a real bad reputation. It is a solitary bear, somewhat territorial and there's not much it is afraid of. This leads to a interactions with humans being less than pleasant (for the human).

Actually, grizzly isn't a subspecies. The correct scientific name is Ursus arctos. Horribilis has been dropped some time ago. Grizzly bears refer to those Ursus arctos which are not coast, other wise they are called "Brown Bears" but still Ursus arctos. While bears of any kind are certainly territorial and have carniverous capacity, most of them don't want anything to do with you, and are quite tranquil and calm. Look up McNeil River Falls and see how womderful the bear-human interaction can be...
